I started my broadcasting career as a researcher at BBC Radio Wales, becoming a reporter for Beacon Radio in Wolverhampton and Shropshire, and then was part of the launch team for BBC Hereford and Worcester.

I moved to BBC Radio Scotland as a Current Affairs producer and Presenter on shows such as Newsdrive and Good Morning Scotland, with a brief stint at BBC Highland in Inverness.

At the BBC World Service, I worked as a newsroom Sub-Editor and Current Affairs Producer, presenting Europe Today, South Asia Report and various other programmes.

As a freelance I continued to work for the BBC, but also started a long-standing association with Classic FM initially as a Newsreader, then as their first ever Multi-Media Presenter, and more latterly as a music show Host. I also worked as a newsreader for British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS), with a number of journalism and broadcasting training trips to Katmandhu.

For several years I established and co-managed a photo stock library concentrating on social affairs.

In 2015, I went to work for China Radio International as a Foreign Expert, presenting their flagship news show ‘The Beijing Hour,’ along with various other news and talk shows.

I have written and presented podcasts for China Media Group including series on the Tang and Song Dynasties, the philosopher Laozi, and a 13 hour narration of ‘Monkey - Journey to the West.’ Latest project: Writing and narrating a podcast series for CGTN on Chinese Buzzwords.

I am currently very active recording a variety of voiceovers, book narrations and presenting podcasts, blogging on food and travel, and writing fiction.

Apart from a first degree in Dutch Studies (European Politics, Politics of European Integration) I hold two post-graduate Diplomas - Radio Journalism (Distinction) and Photo Journalism; an MA in Crime Fiction Writing from UEA, and second MA in Professional Writing from Falmouth University (Distinction). I’ve recently completed a post-graduate certificate in Teaching Creative Writing at Cambridge University, and am undertaking an online course in Scriptwriting through Falmouth University.

I’ve been selected to take part in the Arvon Advanced Writing Programme, starting Autumn 2026.

I’ve also studied several short courses in TEFL, Mandarin Chinese, Drama Writing, Life Writing, and Tea Appreciation. I am also a member of the Society of Genealogists and the Society of Authors.
